IN A resounding leap the proposed North Harbour Marina has taken a significant step forward, marking an exciting opportunity for the City of Moreton Bay.

Following the release of the State’s updated Southeast Queensland (SEQ) Regional Plan on Friday December 15, 2023 the North Harbour Marina has secured its place in the urban Footprint.

North Harbour Holdings Project Director Bryan Finney said the changes to the plans are a game-changer not only for the North Harbour project team but for the local community and the broader Queensland marine industry.

“This is a timely step forward, given the significant investment North Harbour has already made in infrastructure to service the project.”

This advancement accelerates the approval process, paving the way for potential delivery through a Planning Scheme Amendment and/or Priority Development Area declaration.

Mr Finney said it was also great news for the Queensland marine industry.

“The industry has consistently identified the need for additional marina infrastructure to support future growth of the industry within SEQ.”

North Harbour Marina is set to become a city-altering project, fusing a marine industry hub and a diverse range of housing options. The announcement brings not only economic benefits but also unlocks vast riverfront open space along the Caboolture River.

The landmark project will transform more than 570 hectares of prime waterfront land into a world-class lifestyle destination designed to amaze, excite, and inspire.

It will trigger a $2.74 billion economic boost and generate an estimated 6,547 new ongoing jobs. The visionaries behind this venture are crafting a masterplan boasting a long-held vision for a 400-berth marina, 500 dry stack, waterfront retail and entertainment village, diverse living opportunities and vibrant maritime industry for the Burpengary East location.

North Harbour Holdings Chairman Malcolm Hall-Brown said it will also lead to the creation of an incredible waterfront open space recreation area – the largest in Southeast Queensland.

“The announcement not only provides an approval pathway for the marina but also unlocks over 1,000 acres and 13kms of riverfront open space along the Caboolture River, delivering a significant positive outcome for Southeast Queensland.

“This is something that I and the North Harbour board have been looking forward to advancing with the support of government.”

Mr Hall-Brown expressed gratitude for the strong support saying the project has consistently garnered bipartisan support across all levels of government, reflecting widespread community endorsement.

“We are pleased that, thanks to the help of the City of Moreton Bay, the State Government has recognized the project in the SEQ Regional Plan,” he said.

“We thank local State Member Chris Whiting and City of Moreton Bay officials, including Mayor Peter Flannery, Deputy Mayor Jodie Shipway, and divisional Councillor Mark Booth, for their collaborative efforts.”
